Frequently Asked Questions
Who is Drew Thorpe and why do the White Sox want to call him up?
Drew Thorpe is a former top-100 prospect who was part of the same offseason that brought Juan Soto and Dylan Cease to the White Sox. The team wants to call him up because the starting rotation needs stability and consistency down the stretch, and Thorpe has looked impressive in his minor league rehab outings.
How has Drew Thorpe performed in his rehab starts?
Thorpe has thrown 26 innings in his rehab stint, striking out 28 batters with a 3.04 ERA, a 1.09 WHIP, and only 8 walks. He has also been able to stretch out to 5 innings and is approaching 90 pitches per start, which shows he is ready to eat innings at the big league level.
Why hasn't Drew Thorpe pitched in the majors since mid-2024?
Thorpe has been dealing with Tommy John surgery and a series of other injuries that kept him off the mound for nearly two years. He is now back and healthy, as his recent AAA performances show he has his stuff working again.
When can the White Sox officially call up Drew Thorpe?
The White Sox could call Thorpe up when MLB rosters expand to 28 players on September 1st, which would allow the team to add one extra pitcher to the roster. With Davis Martin also expected back soon, the front office is anticipated to clear another roster spot for Thorpe.
How did the White Sox offense perform this season compared to past White Sox teams?
The 2025 White Sox surprised everyone by becoming one of the best teams in baseball and scoring the most runs in the American League. This is a major shift from previous good White Sox squads, which typically relied on pitching to carry the team rather than the offense.
