White Sox Linked To Multiple Starting Pitchers As Trade Deadline Looms

The White Sox have been connected to Shane Bieber, Trevor Rogers, Clay Holmes, Freddy Peralta, and Robbie Ray. General manager Chris Getz has been aggressive in casting a wide net to bolster the rotation for a potential postseason run.

The White Sox were in discussions to acquire Peralta in a package that included prospects George Wolkow and Boston Smith, but those talks stalled when the Mets began shopping Peralta with other clubs. Peralta is a two-time All-Star with a 3.83 expected ERA, suggesting his 4.99 ERA this season is partly a result of poor Mets defense.

Rogers has posted a 4.27 ERA in 20 starts overall, but he has been on fire over his last seven starts with a 1.85 ERA and 41 strikeouts. The White Sox even had scouts in attendance at his most recent start in Detroit, signaling serious interest.

Holmes has been outstanding this season with a 2.39 ERA over 52 2/3 innings, but his health is the primary concern after he suffered a fractured fibula in May. His durability is the biggest question mark surrounding his trade value.

Ray has posted a 3.16 ERA this season and the Giants are motivated to move the remaining portion of his $25 million salary, making him an affordable rental option. He would represent a clear upgrade over Erick Fedde and Noah Schultz as a dependable mid-rotation arm for a postseason push.
