Why did Kalif Raymond spark controversy during the national anthem?
Raymond was recorded praying near the end zone while the national anthem was being performed. The video went viral after some people falsely labeled him a Muslim and accused him of disrespecting America.
Is Kalif Raymond Muslim?
No, Raymond is not Muslim — he is a devout Christian. He attended Greater Atlanta Christian School in Georgia and played college ball at the College of the Holy Cross, a Jesuit school.
What did Kalif Raymond say that proves he is Christian?
In a Bears mic'd-up video released last Thursday, Raymond is clearly heard saying 'I'm going to thank Lord Jesus first.' He also credited 'the Lord' after receiving a game ball with the Detroit Lions back in 2022.
Who spread the false claims about Kalif Raymond praying during the anthem?
Radio and Real America's Voice host Grant Stinchfield posted the video with the caption 'Don't pray to Allah during OUR national anthem!' incorrectly identifying Raymond as Muslim, which helped the false claims go viral.
Has Kalif Raymond prayed during the national anthem before this incident?
Yes, Raymond was also seen praying in the exact same way during the Monday Night Football game against the Philadelphia Eagles on September 28th at Soldier Field, well before the recent controversy erupted.
